Network Planning and Design is a frequentative process, which incorporates topological design, network synthesis, and network realization. The primary aim of this planning is to ensure that a new Telecommunication network or service meets all the required needs of subscribers as well as operators. The process depends on the network or service, and it can be tailored accordingly.
Topological Design – This is initial step of planning in which appropriate location of the components is decided along with how they would be connected. This step helps in determining the cost of transmission and the cost of switching.
Network Synthesis– This is an important step because the size of the components is determined in this step, which affects the performance criteria like Grade of Services. The end-results of this stage are routine plan and size of the components. The method used is known as Non-Linear Optimization.
Network Realization –This is the last stage of Network planning, and it determines how to meet capacity requirements and to ensure reliability within the network as well. The method used is called as Multicommodity Flow Optimisation. Once the last step is completed, an actual physical circuit plan comes into existence.
